Metal Working

“Our Tutors are skilled professionals who encourage proficiency
in practical metal working techniques and skills”

Metalwork

Our sessions in Metalwork and basic engineering introduce students to different types of metals and how these can be used. Students are taught how to understand and apply basic engineering drawings, dimensions and quantities. Tutors provide hands-on instruction in the care and usage of machine and hand tools, and continually emphasise the correct procedures and techniques for ensuring the most effective application. Our Metal Workshop contains space for students to work with hand tools at vices, as well as a variety of machinery including drills, mills and a welding bay. With patience and precision, students are able to craft projects from dog tags to depth gauges.

Our tutors bring a wealth of experience and skill, both in engineering and metalwork as well as working with young people. They will work closely with students to develop their skill in the workshop and their personal attributes such as confidence and belief in their own ability. Our tutors will demonstrate the different techniques needed for different metals and purposes and will model the most effective and safe use of the tools and machinery to obtain the best results.

Once a project is complete, students take it home alongside a sense of accomplishment and pride. They will also have added knowledge and skills to their personal toolkit which is reflected in their portfolio of work that we record and certify through AQA – ready to take to College, potential employers, or simply as a personal record of achievement.
